About

Ivana Ilic is Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Theory. Her research fields include the history and epistemology of music theory, musical form, contemporary Serbian music, and the role of technology in the creative outputs of women composers and performers. She has also written on the topics of music and gender studies, and the role of musical institutions within cultural politics in Serbia. Ivana is the author of Femme Fatale: Representations of Gender on the Opera Stage (2007) and co-editor of several publications including Music and Space: Theoretical and Analytical Perspectives (2021). Her research has been published in Contemporary Music Review, New Sound: International Journal of Music, and Anklaenge: Wiener Jahrbuch für Musikwissenschaft, among others. Ivana is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of the Serbian Society for Music Theory.

As a pianist Ivana has performed extensively and participated in a recording of a CD Josip Slavenski’s Piano Music. Ivana’s artistic activities also included her participation as the performer and the author of the program text in the artistic project Operrrra is Female (director Bojan Djordjev).

Ivana completed her Bachelor, Master and PhD studies at the Faculty of Music, University of Arts in Belgrade, Serbia, where she is employed as Assistant Professor of Music Theory (currently on a Sabbatical leave during the 2023–24 academic year).
