Charles BaldwinArtist Affiliate: Conductor
Charles Daniel Baldwin serves as artistic director and Symphony Orchestra conductor of the Carolina Youth Symphony (Greenville, SC), artist affiliate conductor of the Emory University Chamber Orchestra (Atlanta, GA), and assistant conductor of the DeKalb Symphony Orchestra (Decatur, GA).
Baldwin earned a bachelor of music (piano) degree from Furman University (Greenville, SC) and master of music and doctor of musical arts (orchestral conducting) degrees from the University of North Texas (Denton), where he served as graduate conductor of the university orchestras and opera program; music director and conductor of the Orchestra of the Texas Academy of Mathematics and Science (Denton); and assistant conductor of the Lewisville Lake Symphony (Lewisville, TX). Baldwin also served as orchestra librarian and teaching fellow of Fundamentals of Conducting (MUAG 3800). He studied conducting with David Itkin and Clay Couturiaux and piano, his related field of study, with Adam Wodnicki.
Baldwin has considerable experience in the theater, having conducted numerous performances of opera and musical theater at the University of North Texas, Furman University, The Lovett School (Atlanta, GA), and New Minowa Players (Decorah, IA). Recent guest conducting engagements include the Luther College Symphony Orchestra (Decorah, IA), the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Youth Symphony of Southern Oregon (Medford), and the 2025 South Carolina Advanced Cello Choir (Greenville). Baldwin has participated in conducting and piano contests, festivals, institutes, and workshops around the country.
