Heidi SenungetukAssistant Teaching Professor in Music

Dr. Heidi Senungetuk is a violinist and ethnomusicologist who researches Indigenous music of Arctic regions. Her work explores traditional forms of Inupiaq music and dance and interpretations of Indigenous contemporary music and art. Senungetuk completed degrees in ethnomusicology at Wesleyan University and degrees in violin performance at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music and the University of Michigan School of Music. She held positions as a violinist with the Louisiana Philharmonic of New Orleans, the Tulsa Philharmonic, the Breckenridge Music Festival in Colorado, and the Anchorage Symphony Orchestra. Oxford Bibliographies Online published Senungetuk’s article Indigenous Musics of the Arctic (2017), and she wrote the prologue for the book Music and Modernity Among First Peoples of North America (Wesleyan University Press, 2019).
