AUDITIONS

Auditions for the 2009-10 year have concluded. There were 316 auditionees, all of whom played competitive auditions.

Auditions for the 2010-11 season will be held August 11-18, 2010. Students should prepare approximately 2-4 minutes of music consisting of two contrasting excerpts (one fast/technical and one slow/lyrical) from the standard solo and/or etude repertoire for their instrument. Selected major scales will be asked, and sightreading will be provided.

In addition to standard wind ensemble/concert band instrumentation, the AYWS seeks performers on piano, string bass, and harp. Students who play multiple instruments (e.g. piccolo and flute, clarinet and bass clarinet, any of the saxophones, etc.) should indicate so when scheduling an audition, although only one audition is necessary.

Percussionists should prepare two out of three of a single excerpt from the following: snare drum, mallets (any), and timpani.
