ATLANTA YOUTH WIND SYMPHONY The Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony (AYWS) was founded in 1988 as the honor wind ensemble for high school youth in the Atlanta metropolitan area. Its purpose is to provide a positive musical experience in an artistic environment for advanced instrumentalists in wind and percussion performance. The AYWS rehearses and performs grade five and six (collegiate and professional) original wind band literature composed over a wide span of stylistic compositional periods. As an ensemble, it is one of the most visible ambassadors of culture and youth performance for the city of Atlanta and state of Georgia. NEWS Rehearsal for Monday, September 21st has been CANCELLED. The first concert of the season will be held on Monday, October 19, 2009 at 8:00 pm at the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts on the Emory University campus. Repertoire will include Folk Dances by Dmitri Shostakovich, Sketches on a Tudor Psalm by Fisher Tull, and Turbine by John Mackey. The Atlanta Youth Wind Symphony has been selected to perform at the Georgia Music Educators Association State In-Conference on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at 4:30 pm at the Savannah Convention Center.
